Like you, we’re native San Diegans and we’ve decided to put our professional skills to use by helping the helpers. Sponsoring our non-profit organization would allow us to continue to provide our video and marketing services to other local non-profits for free. When we’re able cover our own production costs, they can keep their resources dedicated to their own mission. Together, we can continue to create content that uplifts and supports our community.

Since each video project is unique, the cost of each video can vary. Factors include the number of filming days required, type of filming for each day, crew members required, amount of post-production needed, plus additional considerations where needed such as motion graphics, location-related expenses, etc.
We’re happy to provide more information about production costs in private correspondence.

We’ve structured Filmmakers For Good so that we can direct as much money as possible toward video production.
Filmmakers For Good does not have any salaried employees. All crew members involved in production are paid as contractors and are paid on a per-job basis.
Moving forward, we do anticipate owing a fee to a fiscal sponsor once an agreement is finalized.

While we may opt to apply for grants in the future, our current goal is to acquire corporate sponsorships for a few reasons.
First, grant applications typically require information about fixed spending schedules. Our organization prioritizes flexibility to allow us to respond to needs and opportunities as they arise. (See the next question for further explanation.)
Second, grants frequently ask a variation of the question, “How does your organization directly impact the community?” Although we strongly believe that Filmmakers For Good is a public benefit, we also recognize that the non-profits we are collaborating with have the more direct impact on the community. We see our role as providing video and marketing support so that they can have an even more profound impact.

The most simple answer is because we want them to spend their money on their core needs.
Non-profits are not required to contribute to us in order to access our services—and that will never change. If they choose to make a donation, we see it as a way of 'paying it forward,' and those funds will help us support the next project we take on.
Another, more practical reason why our business plan is to secure our own funding and not to rely on partner non-profits securing grants to fund us is that video needs can come up at short-notice and we want to be able to help right away. Relying on grant funding would greatly slow down our response times and reduce the overall effectiveness of our efforts.
